They don't cry in the womb. Babies usually cry because they hurt themself, they're hungry, they need attention, or they have a dirty diaper.

They can't get hurt in the womb (unless there are unnatural forces such as abortion)...they always have food supply, they don't need attention, and they don't have bowel movements. So no, they don't cry.

I don't know of any articles per say, but I do know that it IS possible for a baby to cry in the womb, because I did. I was delivered by C-section and the doctor told my mother before he removed me from her womb I was already crying. He said he had never seen anything like that before. So, I'm telling you first hand that it is possible. I'm curious to know why you are asking.

You can not hear a baby crying in the womb, but the baby can hear you once it's ears start to develop in the womb. The only thing a pregnant woman can hear in her womb is the baby's heartbeat when a doctor or nurse uses a Doppler.

A baby is unable to cry in the womb because, in order to cry, it needs to be able to use its lungs to draw breath for crying. Right now the baby's lungs are filled with amniotic fluid, which, among other things, helps develop the baby's lungs. The baby receives its oxygen through the umbilical cord. The lungs will not be used for oxygen intake until birth.

The baby's lungs don't ever work until after he/she is born. So because there is no intake of air or lung movement, there is no crying in the womb.

A baby in the womb is encased in the amniotic fluid. He can not make sounds until he is born and has taken his first breath.

Air has to pass over the vocal chords in order to make a sound. The baby is not breathing any air until it is born, so the first beautiful cry will be at birth.

Sound is made when air passes through the vocal cords. When there is no air (as in the womb), there is no sound.
