No you are not wrong as if the question you ask is important to you then ask away. Your drive is spinning because your computer need to read from or write to it from time to time. A lot of people will assume that you should know but they will not understand that you may not know what they do.

With out getting to technical.
Your drives constantly spin. What u are seeing/hearing is the read/write heads locating data on the drive (bit like a record player but much much faster). When u are are browsing the net, web pages are temporally stored on your hard drive in whats known as a cache. So the next time u visit the site, data is compared with whats in the cache, if there is no change, the web page is loaded from your hard drive to increase speed, and save on Internet traffic.
Hope this answers your question.

1, You may ask anything that you don't understand.
We all had to learn from somewhere.

2, Windows reads and writes to your hard drive all the time as it does things in the background, even if your computer appears to be doing nothing. This is nothing to worry about.

3, Enjoy and take care.

Yes, its a major faux pas. Expect serious repercussions. Take a long hard look at yourself and your spinning drives and ask yourself where exactly you went wrong.
