I am doing a paper onlesser known political figures who took unpopular stands based on decisions of conscience. I was wondering if any one has any ideas. I was also wondering if anyone knows what republicans were originally against the war in iraq or knows where i can find out more. That is one of my ideas.
Thanks alot (has to be from last 40 years person)

How about President Gerald Ford pardoning Richard Nixon? Or better yet, President Ford vetoing bills (and making the vetos stick) because the nation *couldn't afford * what the bills would have cost if made law? No one one takes a stand like that and I think it showed true leadership.
