A whale has already bitten Captain Ahabs' leg off. The purpose of the
story of this journey is to find that whale and get revenge on it for biting
the captains' leg off. Near the end is when the going gets good, they
find the whale and that's all I"ll say.

Moby Dick is a long, dragging read in parts, but it is well worth the fight to finish it, it is a great book. You might have to reread parts to totally understand what is going on but it is worth it. Basically, Moby Dick is part whaler's handbook, part adventure story. It alternates back and forth between the two, the whaler's handbook part helps you to understand what the characters are talking about and doing in the adventure part.

most "classic" books seem slow to modern readers - as we are used to more action.
