and you politely say.."wow!...that is personal"...do you think she would "get it"...and back off...or will she ask another very personal question...i mean you were just friends....not a good friend?...what is a matter with general people that ask?...how old are you?...how did the accident happen?..(i really think that is horrible to even ask?)...how much money do you make?...i mean Why on earth would someone need to know that?...do you own your own home?,,,and how much is your mortgage?...believe me i have been asked EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE QUESTIONS...do you think people in general 'GET IT"...WHEN YOU SAY...that is personal.....and just say.."wow"???.What is wrong with them.????.it bothers me that they would even ask.I WAS TAUGHT TO NEVER ASK PERSONAL STUFF UNLESS YOU ARE A BEST FRIEND AND DO NOT EVER TELL IT...OR UNLESS YOU ARE PLANNING TO GET MARRIED...WOW!!

You could answer with, "Do you not think your asking that is a bit intrusive?" And if they answer no, then you can say, "Well, I do. And I feel no obligation to answer it."

I think that if a question is too personal to have someone ask me, I simply say "I'm sorry, but thats too personal for me to share" and then I change the subject. Questions regarding Mortgage and such, I don't think that people are meaning to be rude, they may be just curious, I for one wonder what a the house payment is on my uncles house just for an idea what a ball park figure would be to have a home like his, but I don't ask because I know that it's considered "rude". If you don't wish to share information that you deem too personal, thats okay, just let the questioner know and move onto the next subject.

When someone asks me a question that I feel is too personal. I say "Are you writing a book?" Other times I will say "When you get that book published, please save a copy for me." This adds a bit of humor and the person is able to recover without embarrassment.

Smile and say "Well you know what...that's not any of your concern, but thanks for your interest" and smile.

I do this all the time, and it shuts them up, and puts them in their place at the same time.
