I believe in individual responsibility. I believe if people are forced to be generous they will not develop personal responsibility. I believe freedom makes people better. I want to be able to live and work the way I believe is best. I believe liberalism will lead to a loss of freedom to do anything besides lead a hedonist lifestyle.

I am green. That is probably considered liberal. The values I most believe in are:
1) Environment - if we don't take care of the earth, the earth will take care of herself by killing us all. Subcategories of this include global warming, clean water, clean air.
2) Development of alternative energy sources. Even if #1 doesn't happen, the world is running out of fossil energy including oil, coal and nuclear fuel. We may have 50 years left. I do not want my nieces dying of starvation because food cannot be transported to them.

All the rest is secondary. I think abortions should be free and available to all, because coat hangers are a horrible alternative both for the mother and the fetus. I think gay people should be allowed to marry because who is it they are hurting by doing this? I think marijuana should be illegal, at least as long as alcohol which is much more addictive and is the only drug whose use it correlated with violence, is legal. I think that attacking a country that is not a threat is a way to INCREASE the threat of terrorism, not reduce it. I think we should have a single-payer medical system because it is less expensive for the same or better care than the private payer system we have now.

I have some conservative views. I think the country should have a balanced budget and work towards a zero debt. I do not believe in gun control, because the right to bear arms is constitutional and one must be prepared to defend oneself against an attack by ones government.

I call myself a conservative because I have battled through every major political issue and come to rest on or near the conservative ideology. It isn’t that I decided I would be something and formed my opinions around it, rather I have argued my way to where I stand now. Some things were ironed out almost from the beginning; a respect for God’s word, justice, human life and property rights were present as long as I can remember. Others have fallen into place as an extension of those values; support for the death penalty and a strong military, opposition to the income tax, elective abortion, euthanasia, homosexual marriage and amnesty for illegal immigrants.

I adhere to a political philosophy that puts principle first, respects traditional institutions, distrusts government activism, and opposes sudden change in the established order. Conservatives are usually on the defensive, arguing for the status quo against some initiative we feel would abrogate our rights or legalize immoral behavior. We believe in a limited role of government, where taxes are low, the streets and country are safe, and social programs are nonexistent.

I am a "democrat" because I believe in a party that represents all the citizens of this great country, not just the rich white ones who want to impose their particular brand of christian values on everyone else...

I was a repub because well....my friends were. Now I'm a democrat, because Bush's reign of idiocracy has driven me to the point of insanity.
