The Bowl Championship Series....or BCS....is a system set up by college football's Division 1-A. This was set up for 2 reasons...the first was an answer to the trend of the late 80's and early 90's of having split championships between the AP and USA polls. The second was to keep the already lucrative bowl system in place by rotating the BCS Championship Game. BCS stands for the Bowl Championship Series. It is a poll formed by the combination of the USA Today poll, Harris Interactive poll, and six other polls done by computers. The six computer polls are combined into one to form 1/3 of the total formula.
