I have a friend who was a professional jingle writer and apparently advertising companies are just not using jingles much anymore. They tend to go with real songs instead these days. My friend moved on to music production.

If you can write a jingle you can write real music - why not? Its a hard road but if you are determined you can make a living as a real musician.

I've played in amateur and semi-professional bands and you sure don't make much money from it, if any, and if your taste in equipment is anything more than modest you are probably going to lose money but its a hell of a lot of fun.

There are paying gigs if you know where to look and if you've got the goods.
