At the end of the first movie, Jack shot him with his only shot. But then, at the end of the second movie, he was back.

because the first never explicitly stated he was dead, and if Tia Dalma can have a compass that points to your hearts desire, and if Davvy Jones can have a Kracken, Barbosa could survive being shot in the chest.
He was also lying in Tia Dalma's hut when Jack got the jar of dirt from her, the undead monkey jumped onto his leg. Maybe Tia Dalma was nursing him back to health?

I thought the same exact thing when I saw Barbosa come back... I'm like "What the heck???"... but then I saw the first pirates movie on tv and they added something to the end of it (something thats not on the DVD)... after some of the credits it showed Jack (the monkey) picking up a piece of the cursed Aztec gold and running across Barbosa's chest. So the only thing I could think of was that since all the gold isn't there, maybe they weren't able to die... which means that Barbosa would technically be alive still....
Believe me I've thought about this and watched the movies carefully for any clues as to why this would make sense.... and I still haven't come up with a good answer. Sorry!... Its probably that the writers just needed another twist in the story, and thats all the thought that went into it. LOL! I don't know....
Maybe that's why the movies are so amazing, because we don't know everything and have to think about it so much..
Well all i know for sure is that Johnny Depp is the most amazing pirate ever!!!!!

Thats because CAPTAIN BARBOSA must have still been alive after getting shot and he knew the only way to live would be to crawl to the cursed gold and become immortal once again. really simple if you understand the movie perfectly.

I think that the witch in the movie did something to captain barbosa and that caused him to come back to life.

I'm not really sure, but I'm positive that answers to the questions that were left to us in Dead Man's Chest will come in the 3rd movie.
"Look! (Jack shoots the monkey) An undead monkey!" lol......Does anyone know why the monkey doesn't die? Is it because he's an animal and animals have 'no souls'?

I'm thinking he wasn't really dead when part one ended he must have grabbed a coin to save his life but I guess we won't know for sure until the next one comes out.

i think meechy72 is rite cuz at the end of the first 1 the monkey was walking around and could have gotten 1 of the medalions and gave it to him. but im going to watch the 3 one to see if its rite

I don't know but the end of that movie pissed me off and I really wanted a resolution.
