We don't suck at it. We just haven't reached the level or potential of football oriented countries like England, Italy, Frace, etc. Soccer is still trying to carve it's place in American culture, just give it some time and I think eventually the US could be a fair threat. And we already have American football stars overseas...Brian McBride, Carlos Boncanegra, Kasey Keller, Claudio Reyna, Bobby Convey, Tim Howard, DeMarcus Beasley...

Its not that America sucks at soccer. If you look at some of their players you can see there is a lot of potential. The problem is the fact that Americans don't care for the sport and there isn't as much attention or pressure to actually become a competitive force on the international level. The fact that they reached the quarter finals in 2002 proves that they do in fact have the potential to put together a great team, the problem is there is no where near as much interest put into the sport as there is football, basketball, baseball, or hockey. Many people who play soccer at a young age change to another sport because of the fact that the general public focuses on those other sports. Look at how much more those athletes earn compared to soccer players...how often do you see a soccer commercial on American television? The only time major companies show they sponsor soccer is during the World Cup or the Olympics otherwise you never hear about it. Go to any other part of the world and most other sports are looked at the way Americans look at soccer, while soccer itself is THE sport to play.

First of all, The US DOES NOT SUCK AT SOCCER. The MLS All Stat team beat Chelsea. As for your second question. US players are already oversea playing important roles for teams in England , Belgium and Germany. Claudia Reyna plays for Man City. Brian McBride plays for Fulham I think. Bobby Convey lead Reading into the Premiership for the first time in it existence. The reason that you do not know any of this is because the main stream sports media reports none of it to keep the myth alive that the US is not good at or supports football.

Soccer in America is quite new compared to countries with more trdition, like south american, european or even central american teams like Mexico or in the 2002 clasification round caes, Costa Rica. You have to give time to the country to develop a wider culture of the sport and then, I'm sure that new star players will rise in the US.

The US should scrapits sports as they are very poor and i dont see the attraction. Baseball is what we call rounders ( usually played by girls ) American Football is basically a high tech version of Rugby and Basketball is very similar to Netball ( again played by girls only ). Football is the biggest sport on earth bar none. No other sport comes close. The following of football dwarfs any other sports following ( man utd have a fan base of 40,000,000, thats equivilent to 2/3 of Great Britain ) granted not all live in Britain.

America must realize this and stop what i can only see as stubborness in not wanting to give upthere national sports ( i suppose its a sign of being American ) and welcome football. Believe me when i say nothing comes close.

Its not called the beautiful game for nothing you know.

Let me remind you of a certain Christmas Day during WW1. The German troops shouted over to the British and agreed to lay down arms for 1 day in order to play a game of football.
What other sport could have that sort of impact?

No.

What soccer is to European fans, college football is to us.

It's not so much about talent; we have no system of soccer teams or team identities that can possibly compete with college football.

But then again, we now have a zillion hockey franchises throughout the US.....who knows?

USA is fairly good, I'd rank them at about #18-#23 in the world. That's not bad at all, and above most countries with a much longer football tradition.

They held Italy to a draw and were close to winning it. The games with the Czechs and Ghanians were quite bad, though, because they seemed to depend too much on Donovan.
