Hi,

An optical mouse, the one with a light on the bottom, is NOT dangerous if you look at it for a reasonable length of time but prolonged exposure to the light may be harmful to your eyes. If you happen to glacnce at it, no prob. But if you're like, staring at it all day, then yeah, maybe you could hurt your eyes. Also, it's not, at least in my experience, a laser on the botton, rather a LED and is no worse to look at than a regular light bulb)

Hope this helped!

Well, it says on my Logitech mouse that it is Class I and therefore 'eye safe', so that would be a no.

Lasers aren't all created equal, there are ones that can burn your head off or cut steel and then there are ones that you could look at, if you wanted to. These are at the low power end, like laser pointers. I would no more look at the laser on my mouse than I would look into my 5 watt LED flashlight, but the laser mouse isn't a danger to anyone.

Besides which, the laser is pointing down, so unless you are in the habit of using your face as a mouse matt you are never going to see the laser. That diffused red glow is unimportant, it's cosmetic and has no significant energy.

Even though I'm sure it's safe, I still wouldn't advise anyone to look at any bright light source.

Sounds like the cats like the mouse! Seriously, cat hair is the worst and seems to float right into it. Try wiping the laser mouse occasionally with a dryer sheet. The fabric softener in it prevents dust and hair from accumulating. It also works great on your monitor and tv screens, too.
