The very best thing you can do is LISTEN to your people. You might be management, but that does not mean you are any smarter than the people you supervise. You will get more respect by treating them as equals. I don't care how much schooling you have, nothing beats good old common sense. Your people will do more for you also. Also, tell them they are doing a great job if they are. Everybody likes a pat on the back. If they aren't, tell them they aren't. If it's only one person, don't do it in front of their colleagues. Talk to them in private. Treat them how you want them to treat you.

Relationships are critical when you work in management. Knowing what is important to the people you work with will really get you results and change the way you are perceived. Start small and with the people that matter. This could be the people you supervise or your managers. When you talk to them: remember family member names, hobbies, birthdays or anniversary dates, etc. Bring these things back up next time you have a casual conversation with them or when their birthday hits. I promise they'll take note. Everyone asks personal questions but very few people listen to the answers. I don't have the best memory and I rely on my computer. I set up a contact in Outlook (on my PDA) on each of my associates when I start in a new location. I add to my notes after every conversation and update my notes on that individual....eventually I have most of it memorized. Finally, be sincere. Most people have a good sense of who is really listening to them and who is not. Do this your own way and you'll be seen as having great people in no time.

One of the ways I've found easiest is by practising in your home life. Talking so a sibling or a family member that you usually give a hard time to. Or even explain to someone close what you're doing and ask them to randomly come to you w/ problems or questions so that you can answer them and then have them tell you what they thought, what they would suggest. You'll feel stupid but it'll help

Well, there's a lot of factors why they are not improving one factor could be their motivation towards work kinda lazy to go on just the regular routine type of thing you know. You have to resort to something that will keep them going for success.
