ronB got it about $10,000 ever 1,000 sqft. There are many ways to cut cost depending on the area and quaility of house you are looking for. doing as much work yourself helps and things like 24 on center rather than 16 on center (depends on area codes) where there is heavy snow or winds this wont be aloud. Also you can find discounted materials if you are willing to give up a quick build and search high and low for matterials you can find discounts on things such as shingles, flooring, cabinetry(also salvage is an option), paint and lighting. Just keep your eyes open .

It varies pretty widely depending on a zillion factors, but about $100/square foot will give you a ballpark answer. This means, as another responder indicated, about 1000 square feet -- not a real big place.

In the NYC metro area, a 100g's in the immediate suburbs will probably get you a 1 1/2 car garage. In NYC proper, that might get you a studio apt in a crappy not-so-nice nieghborhood.

That depends on where you live and on what type of construction you're considering (stick built, modular, timber, etc.)
