I just bought an Intel Core 2 duo E6600. Its a 2.4GHz processor and I havent had any trouble with it. It costs about $300, but is worth it. Whatever you do, do not buy an Intel Core 2 Due Extreme. They cost $1000+ and arent much better than my $300 processor. I dont know what you'll be using this processor for, but as long as you go with anything that has dual core technology, you should be fine.

I just did a lot of research while buy a new PC.

I opted for the Intel Core 2 Duo. AMD dual core is fine also.
You need to decide which one you prefer. I found the Intel website easier to locate the info I wanted but either makes a real good processor.

Here's what I found for approximate prices. All are Intel with1066 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB).

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

E6300 1.86 GHz 2M L2 Cache $185
E6400 2.13 GHz 2M L2 Cache $230
E6600 2.40 GHz 4M L2 Cache $315
E6700 2.66 GHz 4M L2 Cache $525

Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor

X6800 2.93 GHz 4M L2 Cache $1000 Dual Core
QX6700 2.66 GHz 8M L2 Cache $1100 Quad Core

AMD's are similar in price.
