It was, as the others say, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In effect, the God of the Old Testament insisted his children be obedient to His rules rather than willfully defy those rules. That was the real test Adam and Eve failed.

It is God's rule that one obey God's rules.

The Serpent enticed them with 'knowledge' into thinking they could disregard God's rules, therefore got them booted out of a pretty good life. To this day, it is temptation that takes good folks away from the pure life dictated by God and giving in to that temptation leads folks into all sorts of misery.

The tree of good and evil. It must have been a liberal tree since it was a place for a satanic snake.
