Car pol Tunnel is extremely painful, more so at night, There are some doctors that would suggest other means of treatment if your father can not go into surgery do to complications because of age or other illnesses, If he was 50yrs old and in good health I do believe that they would have to go into surgery. Surgery seems to be the only way to fix this problem from what I have heard, But it's not 100% effective. I am sorry to say..

You need to talk to your father or the Dr who diagnosed him. I didn't examine your father and I am not a Dr. But even if I was a Dr I would never make a recommendation either way on a board like this.
BTW, I am not just trying to give you a bad time. I am diabetic and have had my gall bladder removed and a minor amputation partially due to the diabetes. Trust me, there are just too many variables for anyone to give you any meaningful information without a thorough examination and discussion with your father.

It depends: how bad is the carpal tunnel (pain, mobility, etc), and how bad is his diabetes---my father was 73 and was in horrible pain, from his hands up to and across his shoulders---he also is a diabetic.
He had the surgery (both hands at the same time), and he feels great now.
He also got off his butt and lost 10 pounds and that helps his blood sugar and he was able to cut back on his meds.

It really depends on his pain level. If his diabetes is well controlled with his meds, and he doesn't have problems with healing, surgery might be the best route. Yes, he's OLD, but he isn't dead and the pain may be unmanageable or intolerable. If he does opt for surgery, suggest ONE hand at a time, then he can make an educated decision on surgery for the other hand.

If it were my father, I would say "no" and any good doctor would say the same thing. The man is too old and has a chronic disease process. He should be put on pain melds and anti-inflammatories and use a brace for his hand. Carpal Tunnel will get better with less use or with supported use. Godloveya.

I personally would not suggest the surgery. Just by your father's age, would you really want to put him through it? My grandfather is 79, suffers from asthma, diabetes and lung cancer. At his age, if someone wanted to operate on him or put him to sleep for a procedure, I do not believe we would let them. Just a personal opinion though. Is your father really struggling with the carpal tunnel?

He encontrado muchos consejos aquÃ, ¿igual te sirven? Un saludo.

Depends, most doctors can just treat the symptoms , especially at his age, surgery may not be indicated. may be candidate for cortisone shots. Ask his doctor.

This should be discussed between him, the family, and the Doctors.
