If I`m interperating the quest. correctly it sounds like one or more vacume lines are mixed up, causing the htr. valve to close when eng. vacum is present. (usually, the htr. valve is open by default). Check your vacum lines at the heat control sw. A vacum guage\pump can be had fairly cheap.

i mechanic for a living,,and it can be crossed wires for the switch,,or a crossed vacuum line on the back of the selector switch causing this to happen,,i seen a few with crossed vacuum lines before,it takes a while to get them strait again,,also it can have a bad control unit causing this to happen to it,,good luck hope this help,s.

the on/off valve in the heater hose is upside down. In otherwords your cable is activating it from above(when it should have been from below) or vice versa.

either your heater control valve is on upside down or you have wires crossed for the blower motor switch or your crosseyed or your colorblind.

It sounds like your switches that cuts it on and off, are electrical and this is messed up.
