My goldfish are outside in a pond, so flakes would be a waste of money. If yours are inside, start them off on flakes and you can move on to pellets when they get big enough. You can also treat them to frozen bloodworm, daphnia and tubiflex once a week. Like the guy above said, "a varied diet is a healthy diet". They also do like their greens as Cat mentioned. Quality wise there is no difference in the content of flakes and pellets. Flake is designed to be eaten there and then, pellets they have to hunt for on the bottom. Goldfish are carp, they surface feed, hence carp fishermen use fly baits not worms. Not that they would go fishing for goldfish, but they are the same family and behave the same way.

If there small goldfish only an inch long they need flakes because flakes easily rip appart and are esy to digest, but if you have large goldfish they need pellets so the water doesn't get cloudy or anything.

well, for goild fish, flakes are easier to digest and eat. for larger fish, pellets are easier and provide more food in 1 serving. just make suer not to overfeed your fish.
