It depends whether it is a state or federal grand jury. States vary in range from 2 up to 23. The fed grand jury has 16 as the minumum and 23 as a max.
EDIT....
A GRAND JURY is not the same as a JURY TRIAL. A grand jury is convened when prosecutors need them to consider proposed indictments or to investigate possible criminal activity. This is kind of like a 'pretrial' . Grand jury's are not open to the public. These are very secretive, and in fact many people don't even know they go down.
