cells arise from different cells is part of the cell theory. They arise from other cells by mitosis and fertilazation. Mitosis is one parent cell forms two identical daughter cells. In fertilization the two gametes to form a gamete which divides mitotically. Meiosis is the only other way cells can be formed. This of course brings up the question about how the first cell was formed...

The cell theory states that all life is cell based and that cells divide by binary fission; 1 cell become 2, become 4, becomes 8, and so on.

This does not work for viruses, but then, many people argue viruses are not alive anyways
