It's been my experience that the macho, self absorbed jerks are the ones who pursue a woman like crazy in the beginning and make her feel like the most wonderful girl in the world, and then as soon as they are sure she loves them, that's when they revert to their jerkish ways. By then, we just sit there and wonder why they can't go back to being the fantasy guy they pretended to be in the beginning. It really isn't the woman's fault. We do not enjoy being treated like crap. Give me a real, every day guy any old day and I'll be forever grateful!

Because they have other qualities that made them appealing to their mates. After their mates had fallen for them, the jerks treated them like garbage. By this time the jerk has become the dominant member of the relationship, so he can be self-absorbed and mean sometimes, and she has to accept it. The 2nd type of men you mentioned are losers who are in love with an attractive girl who is out of his league, sometimes his girlfriend is the only thing he has going for him. The problem is the girl becomes the dominant partner in the relationship, because he's worried that she will leave him, and she can do better. Her basic animal instincts in her sub-conscious mind tell her she should be mating with an alpha male type, not a little girly-man who treats her as his equal. Women are not looking for a man to be a friend or a slave, they want a dominant male who will put his superior genes into her eggs.

because they want to change them, which they view as a measure of their femininity. They want to believe that they are alluring enough that they can bring out the best in those jerks, and if they succeed, it is an affirmation of their beauty and womanly charms. Also, since jerks do tend to treat people badly in general, they may see the special attention the jerk gives her as a sort of flattery not bestowed on many people, which makes her feel special.
It may also be that since kindness is rare from jerks, it may increase the value of the kindess, when it does come.
The sad thing is that the more women gravitate towards bad boy jerks, the more mens behaviors swing that way who would otherwise be decent guys. Alot of nice guys turn bad, or at least make themselves into more of an a**hole just to get certain girls attention. So its partly the womens fault.

I read your answer to Karma's question. I agree with everything you wrote. Some women aren't strong and choose guys that act all macho, but have no brains. That type of guy isn't a real man. Real men love smart women and love them for who they are and not for material things. A real man treats women with respect. I like real down to earth smart guys with brains. This world is full of shallow people, it makes all of the good people seem different and weird.

Another great question! The reson behind it dates back to the days of cavemen and can still be found today in most mamals. There is a chemical in a females brain that reacts to the visual displays of the "alpha male". Don't worry friend. Alot of girls like sweetness and romance, and big brains. They're just at better places. Instead of frequenting bars, go to the park or library. In time, you will settle down with the love of your life and the women you speak off will still be getting beers for the big fatass that can't get a job let alone get off the couch.

OK, I'm probably going to get myself shot down here. First of all, i wonder the same thing when i see it happening.
But, when I read the question, something jumped into my mind, so I'm going to share it.
Maybe it is because women are responders and (like someone else said) these men treat them special to start with, and they take charge. You think you know where they want you. No guessing, no wondering, does he like me? does he want me to do this or that? does he like it when i wear my hair like this? No, he makes himself just as clear as he wants to be. It is a good thing to think you know where you stand. It just gets ugly when you realize that nothing you do is good enough. You no longer "know" that they love you like you thought you did. Maybe because they can direct you they no longer respect you, at that point you are already caught and find it hard to get away. What you liked, his assured direction, now works against you to destroy you.
A woman needs a man that she can please, and that is seeking to please her. It should not be a one way street. The more both people work to please the other, the more in love and happy they will be.

I think I have burned out on macho ego. I love a nice, loyal family man who loves kids. I have enough macho for two people. One man whom I really admire is Clay Aiken. I think he is adorable and talented and he has done so much to assist kids with Autism. And I like a man on the metro side with sophistication and manners. Or all of my friends and family will ask what is she doing with him??

Maybe you're perceiving that because the type of woman you're attracted to is the type who choose men like this. Maybe you need to re-examine your own reasons for being attracted to a woman and re-evaluate them. Personally I don't know any women like that but I know they do exist, I just avoid them. (I am a woman). I do think, however, maturity has a lot to do with it. Sometimes a woman has to burn through a few dogs before she learns to seek what she needs, not what she thinks she wants.
It took me 40 years. Hope you don't have to be that patient!

It's do to the fact that they are insecure and have no/low self esteem. They have been usually abused phsychial or sexually or both by there fathers or ex boyfriends. So thats all they know. Being treat liked sh!t by men reassures them that they are worthless and then they stay with them cause its all they know.
One girl I knew liked me alot but she had this boyfriend who beat her and raped her and almost killed her several times. She didn't leave him for me...and you know why.. she said " Trust the devil you know, then the devil you don't know " Kinda made me feel worthless..it really did. To choose a guy who beats her then a great guy like me !!!!!
Face it...we are just too nice for are own good.

i'd want a guy with confidence (and a great body) but i wouldnt want him to be really self-absorbed or to treat me like garbage
