The swastika is an important religious symbol to many (esp. in asia) but in the US, you couldn't get away with this could you? It has negative symbolism here.

I am a US citizen. The swastika is still used in Asian countries. I am sure they are aware that the Nazi's used it. I think Americans are ignorant of this. I think it is unfortunate that one can wear a cross, but a swastika, a symbol used by buddhists, among others, would be shuned. I do not in anyway dislike jews or any other peoples.

I knew you'd get some negativity on this one, Delia. Most people are pretty ignorant of history. They don't know how Hitler co-opted and sullied what once once a revered and uplifting symbol.
Don't sweat it.

I think you have answered that one. If it was displayed in the general negative way that we think of as a Swastika, then No. I don't think you could wear that anywhere without being thought to be a racist.
Now, if it was worn on an Indian reservation, or down near the Mexican border, and displayed as a colorful motif, that might be different.
Cause' that puts it in a whole nother' context. There's alot of things that way. It depends more on subtleties, and the framework and mindset of who you are hanging with.

most people wouldn't know about the religious symbolism of a swastika... so yes it would cause a lot of negative feelings if you were to display a swastika... after all it did represent one of the nastiest regimes in the last 100 years

If you wear a swastika symbol then people will immedialtly think your are a racist. I understand that it is a sacred symbol in some countries, but ever since nazi germany it became a negative representation.

No, not in America because of all the meanings and emotions attach to the sign. It wouldn't be right. In America, it means hatred, ignorance, intolerance, and it is just disrespectful to many. You have the freedom to do, display, and wear what you want, but most people think of it as racist. It may be a good, positive and religious sign in Asia, to Buddhist, and others around the world, not just in America.

nope. It's assiciated with the Nazi party and you would be thought to be a Nazi. It's the same as trying to display a rebel flag. If you display a rebel flag, you're thought to be a racist hillbilly. There's too much negativity to some symbols for them to ever be ok in society.

Yeah, 99% associate it with Nazi's etc.......ignoring the real history. That's the fact of it. Unfortunately there will be people who will judge you or even harm you (i.e. kick your ***) before you get to tell them the real origin. You can go ahead and try an experiment to see what happens for a few days if you wear one, but be prepared for trouble!
