Is a mac laptop worth the money or would a less expensive PC suffice?

I am a high school student doing average work (I am not a computer programmer or anything) and I am looking for a laptop. Any suggestions?

Just get a cheaper PC.

Mac is really only good for those who do a lot of media stuff. Something beyond listening to mp3s or watching movies. Creating the stuff.

If you wanna play games, a comparably priced PC laptop is a much better bet.

I have an iMac. Bought it cuz of all the rave reviews by Mac people. Frankly, it's nothing special for the average user. The only person I know who really needs it over a PC is a friend who does the computer graphics for movies.

I do not own a laptop, but I have always, and will always, own a Macintosh. I currently have a new iMac, with OS X Tiger. It is a dream to use. I use a PC at work, and it is, in my opinion, little more than a lousy copy. Granted, I'm sure we're all biased toward what we like, and there are probably loads of PC users out there that would hate my Mac. My answer for you would be to learn all you can about the Mac (apple.com), and even go test one out, before you make your decision. Price alone is not always the best reason to choose a product. I gladly pay a bit more for a Macintosh, because of it's reliability(no viruses), and its logical, easy-to-use interface.

When it comes to more expensive Macbooks... I always say it depends on how much media design you want to do. If you want to cut films and music, go with the Mac. If you just wanna surf, do word processing, listen to music, regular somputer use, go with a cheaper PC.

If you're computer illiterate, a mac is the way to go. They are harder to screw up.

If you are into multimedia, video or web design a mac is the way to go.

If you do spreadsheets and swap word documents with people a lot . . . then go for a PC.

Truth be told, macs suck in almost every way compared to PCs. It just depends on *how much* cheaper you're talking about.

I don't think mac's are all they are cut out to be but definitley don't get a toshiba. Both my brother and I have one and they are so terrible they give us all kinds of problems all the time.
