I currently have the following

p4 running at 2ghz
1 gb of dram memory
ATI graphics card ALL-IN-ONE-WONDER 64MGB
1LG DVD burner, and one pioneer DVD burner
2 hard drives, one at 80gbs, the other at 150gbs
I have installed recently Adobe Premiere Elements 3

I have a tower, with a new 450 watt power installed.

I really want to keep my Video Editing program, but don't know if I will run into installation problems, due to required codes on internet, have copied these codes, and can reentire them, just don't know if it will work.

Can I upgrade the mother board with a dual processor, and add 2 mgbytes of ddr2? If so which processor is better for video editing AMD 64X2 or going with Intel dual processors. AMD seems to have a faster bus 2000???? Am I better buying a whole new system, and selling my old one. I just hate reloading all my video software.??????

First of all, check with the video editing software system requirements. It might not be compatible with a 64bit processor line such as the AMD 64X2.

Second, if your not changing anything else you might find salvation in moving to a new computer with help from Acronis True Image Home 10 @ http://www.acronis.com
That is, if you are buying an all new computer and just want to move portions or your entire system, OS included, to the new computer.

I don't know if you can take a preloaded OS and drop in a different MOBO and processor. Even more so, I don't know if you can take a preloaded OS from a 32 bit system and introduce it to a 64 bit system without errors.

I do see however, that you may benefit from a better video card for video editing. The rendering would be much better with another card. Check with the PNY NVIDIA Quadro line of video cards. They are supreme in the field of video editing, 3D rendering, and CAD.

Best of luck

you can get all that and use your same HD's and be set, no software needed sept for the upgraded stuff like the MB software and such and a new video card. ou won't get maybe $150 for your old system with the HD's cleaned and windows reloaded so you might as well upgrade, to buy a new system with all that you'd be paying out your rear. www.pricewatch.com get some cheap quality parts there. Good luck

As long as you keep the software installed on the hard drive and you do not plan on upgrading the hard drive, then I would say you could replace the motherboard, procesor or memory. Make sure you chekc to make sure that program will work with either Intel or AMD and make sure that too much memory could slow the program down.

if your running XP then get a new system. you'll hit the 12 point with a new motherboard, cpu and memory and it will want to be reloaded. then you at least have a backup that will run if not exactly fast. plus your new power supply might not be big enough to handle all your stuff plus new mobo and processor and any changes that you decide to make.
