Drivers are things that tell your computer how to use a particular piece of hardware...in this case its your soundcard. without its drivers the computer can see the sound card but cannot work out how it is used. find out who the manufacturer is and what model of card you have and visit their website, there will be drivers for ur soundcard there, simply download them, install and reboot your system and that will sort you out, hope that helped!

the audio card is the one you plug your speakers in
check you have pluged into the green one that is sound out
check you have power to your speakers.
open control panal / sounds and audio devices
check to see if mute is ticked (untick it )click on advanced in that area check others are not muted ( done )
right click my computer / properties / hardware / device manager
check for any "(?)" with yellow or green background, if there is under sound ,video, game controlers, reinstall your sound and video drivers that came with you pc

i have this same problem with my sound card, i think it is caused by conflicting programs that use sound eg. Paltalk, Skype, Yahoo Messenger. Which somehow makes your computer lose the sound card, i find that just a simple reboot always fixes it, but that is just me, it depends if a reboot does not fix it?

can you remember when it worked last? Windows has a fantastic functionality "restore"

click on start>
select All Programmes>
select Accessories>
select System Tools>
select System Restore>

step back to a date when it last worked. You will not lose data, but if you have installed any new software since that date, you will have to re-install it.

good luck!
