I just got a new monitor for christmas and my computer worked fine for a couple of days and then one morning i went to turn it on and it freaked out and wouldnt start. my boyfriend and brother both looked at it and thought it might be the video card. They said it looked like the monitor was trying to get a signal from computer. I know nothing about computers and they i should go get a new video card but i dont want to, if i dont have too. so tell me what you guys think PLEASE!!!

I would suggest check the input for the monitor. Most monitors have the ability to display via a analog signal known as VGA or a digital signal also known as DVI. It is possible that you hit a button on the monotor by mistake. I would suggest you refer to the manual for a solution.

Does anything appear on the monitor? If so, what?

Try your old monitor first. You may have gotten a bum monitor. If the old one works, tell the person who got it for you to get it exchanged.

If the graphics card is at fault, get a new card. If it's on the motherboard, then you can either a) investigate video cards or b) get a new motherboard.

I hope this has been of some help!

There are hundreds of things that could go wrong for that to happen so take it to a computer shop and get it checked out.
