I have documented white cuff syndrom. just knowing that I have to get my BP checked, especially hours before hand, causes it to shoot out of this world... God, just the sound of the velcro, or the word "high blood pressure" is more than enough.

Anyway, my midwife had the tech check my BP on friday, and it was 130/80, up from 127-70 (my usual preggo BP). The tech made the mistake of saying to me "Wow, your blood pressure it high today" And by the time the midwife got in it flew up to 150/90.

Then she went ape crap on me and ordered blood work, urine samples, 24 hour urine for a complete protein check, and made me lie down so they could check it again, scheduled an ultrasound and put me on bed rest for the weekend.

My blood work came back with all my good points above average, and all my toxic levels and bad points well below. My blood count was awesome, even my iron is perfect (I dont even take any iron....stops me up..)

Running out of letters... lemme post and add things...

Friday before I left she checked it again after i'd been laying down, and it was 127/80, and sitting, she said it might be higher, and she wanted to take it. It was 135/80.

That was friday, on monday i went to the maternity ward because my midwife ordered a non-stress test and a BP check.

Walking in off the street (having made the 40 minute drive myself) climbing into the hospital, and after all that comotion, my bp was 138/80. The non stress was PERFECT, baby had the hiccups and a kicking fit...lol. The Dr.'s there said everything was perfect, my blood work, basic urine, and even my BP levels.

I had to go back to my midwife per her instructions on tuesday, got in and my BP was 150/89. Taken by the same tech who told me my BP was high so she had to check me right away. They panicked and ordered MORE tests, and an ultrasound for today.

Today I had an ultrasound, baby is perfect, got checked at the midwifes by the same tech, bp was 150-/100. She freaked out and sent me to the M-ward

Anyway, sorry this is long. Iam just painting the picture.

Walked all the way to the maternity ward, got in there, sat down and they took it again. 130/70. I walked, I laid, I ate, I sat up... never went over 130/80 while I was there. In fact, by the time I was leaving, after walking around and stuff it was 120/70.

They ordered another NST after the ultrasound from 20 minutes earlier, and more blood work. And urine. EVERYTHING IS FINE....

I dont have headaches, i dont have hot flashes, i dont have blurred vision...

is it possible its just related to the white cuff syndrom? how is it possible for all these tests to come back with excellent more than healthy results, and for the hospital to say iam fine and in no danger, but the midwife freaks out all the time?

Your doc "went ape" because you had at least one of the symptoms of preeclampsia, which is a SERIOUS condition. Do not screw around with this if she also found protein in your urine (although it appears she did not). If she said bed rest, then that's where you should be, for your own sake and for the sake of your baby, follow her directions. Preeclampsia is diagnosed by 1) elevated blood pressure in late-term pregnancy and 2) protein in the urine. Those two diagnostic criteria are definitive; please do as she says; progression to full-blow eclampsia is NOT something you want to experience.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

It's a bit high-and 150/90 is out of normal. The white coat syndrome would cause the 150, but not necessarily the 90. You need to rest-the high diastolic reading could be indicative of toxemia/pre-eclampsia-and follow your dr's instructions. No wonder she went "ape crap"-mine would have also!!!

You also need to make sure (personal experience here) that they are using a long enough pressure cuff-if you are large or plus-sized to begin with, they may have to get the larger cuff or even a thigh cuff to get a correct reading.

Take a deep breath and do not worry about it. Whatever will be, will be. They will take care of you.

Mine got to 158/108 with my second at 36 weeks and they had to induce. Then with my third it went up to 158/123 at 38 weeks and they again induced. I would say you are doing well. As long as the doctor is keeping an eye on you you will be fine. Here are some warning signs of preeclampsia (pregnancy induced high blood pressure).

*severe swelling of hands and face
*headache that wont go away with Tylenol
*Seeing spot in front of the eyes
*protein in urine
*high blood pressure.. usually something over 140/90

*if not treated.. seizures, convulsions, coma, possibly death.

Hope this helps.

140/80 is borderline it is what one would call a low /hi.
I would just love to keep mine at that level .I have averaged 150/80 for 25 years now. my wife averaged 140/75to80 through both of our children's pregnancy's . Her doctors said blood was a little elevated but as long as we kept it at that level or below she would be just fine. our Baby is now 32 years old and doing well so I suppose he was right.

I was told that when it was x/90 they would start keeping a close eye on me. when it reacher x/100 i was hospitilized. this is when i was about 8 1/2 months. my BP along with a few other factors had me diagnoised with pre-eclympsia. i am no doctor, so can't give advise, but x/90 is kinda high...

I wouldn't be concerned at 9 months. That is actually ok for being as far along as what you are. If it was much higher, you could probably have something to be concerned about, but I really think you are ok. They should be able to tell if anything serious is going on by your urine protein level.

I am hypertensive but was normal during pregnancy and abnormal after pregnancy. Please check this website for healthy BP ranges. (A doctor can better explain what your particular needs are because our bodies have many ways of reacting to the "new arrival" - be well and don't stress, the baby wants you to be happy.
