I am going to be having surgery soon to take care of a cyst on my right ovary that won't go away. My OB believes that they will likely find that I have endometriosis while they are in there because of the nature of my cyst and the fact that I also have infertility and all the symptoms. This surgery is not going to clear out my fallopian tubes if they are blocked but it should get the endo out of my abdomen and free up my tubes if they are immobilized. Anyway I guess I want to know others stories of the type of surgery they had and if it improved their fertility. Thanks.

I had 2 surgeries (laparoscopies) for endometriosis and possible cysts. The second was much more sucessful at dealing with my pain issues, and I was able to get pregnant in 6 months with a beautiful baby boy!!

Good Luck! I know it's stressful, but it really will help!!!

Surgery is the gold standard for diagnosis of Endometriosis (indeed, no other diagnostic method is considered certain), so it is imperative to undergo the surgery for diagnosis and effective treatment. Further, surgical removal of Endometriosis and excision of endometriomas can actually improve fertility. The best method of treatment is laparoscopic excision, in which all disease is removed from all locations, but this is only available at specialty centers throughout the U.S. (see www.centerforendo.com for an example). You can visit http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erc for conversation with over 3000 others who have had surgery and tried many treatments. Good luck to you.
