Garcia Lorca was shot by a firing squad of the Fascist forces of Francisco Franco.
Garcia Lorca was a loyalist, meaning that he was a supporter of the government republic in the Spanish civil war of 1936-1939.
The government of the republic was mostly communist, socialist, and anarchist.
The Fascists wanted to shut him up.
Result: The Fascists succeeded. Franco ruled Spain from 1939 till he died in 1975. Garcia Lorca is sometimes read in Spanish classes in the U.S., but he has fallen out of use.
