The great thing about bellydance is that it is great for all body types and all ages! It doesn't matter whether your skiny or fat it's made for everyone. However this in no way means that it is easy!!! A great dancer makes it look easy and many of the basic foundation movements are not difficult to learn but it does gain in complexity when you add on layering, musicality, and zills! Some movements will be extremely easy for you and endlessly frustrating for someone else while other moves will give you endless frustration and be a piece of cake for another. It can be extremely fun since many dancers usually end up forming a sort of sisterhood with fellow dancers. If you are classes that encourage and nurture this type of relationship than it will be extremely fun. As for co-ordination, any dance will help you improve your co-ordination because all dances are about becoming aware of both your body and the space around it. Gaining flexibilty and muscle control will strengthen your awareness of your range of motion and your spatial awareness. All of these will work together to improve your co-ordination (assuming of course that you practice more than your one class session a week). I love belly dance, and find it to be lots of fun. I have been studying belly dance for over 6 years. Belly dance is not about sex, despite the reputation that Hollywood has bestowed upon the dance. Some find it fairly easy to learn, while other may not. Some movements may come more easily than others, even if they seem quite similar. Also, you will often have a preference for one side, or direction, that is easier than the opposing side, or direction. It may help with coordination because it gives you a better awareness of your body and how it moves.

I have dated a belly dancer, watched tons of her performances, and even tried out some moves myself. I think it is easier than many other dancers because the focus isn't so much on the feet as it is the hips and arms. It won't make you coordinated as much as it will make you understand certain muscle groups better. The muscle isolations are very fun once you understand and start really making them look good. It is also a very abdominal intensive workout, and your butt will feel it too.
You don't need a belly or lack of a belly to belly dance either. I have seen plenty who are at both ends of the spectrum. All you need is confidence to start learning the dance and a good instructor. The self-awareness of your body and your muscles come as you get further into the dance.

Belly dancing is great. It comes easier to some people than to others, though. It's a great way to keep in shape, regardless of whether you have belly/hips/whatever. More coordinated, probably, and it's awesome fun.
