Those in the know now believe that the culprit is... volcanic gas. The so-called 'Bermuda Triangle (or the Devil's Triangle) is an area of ocean with much underwater volcanic activity. If a bubble of gas a third or a quarter of a mile in diameter is release beneath a ship, or even an airplane, that ship or airplane will go straight to the bottom. Instantly. Volcanic gas tends to be lighter-than-air and a ship will lose its buoyancy and an airplane will lose its 'lift' diving nose first, engines going full-blast into the bottom of the sea.

It is supposed to occur quite instantly. If the 'odor' of the gas doesn't kill everyone within two-breaths, the ocean returning to envelop the ship/plane will crush or drown all occupants before any kind of distress signal can be sent out. Volcanic gas can be mostily methane, CO2, or something called 'sour gas,' or any combination. CO2 displaces oxygen and can incapacitate very rapidly. Sour gas, according to old time oil rig workers, can kill in 'two breaths.' Sour gas contains large quantities of hydrogen sulfide (acid) which makes it toxic.

The above explanation is the best one I have found to the phenomena of the Bermuda Triangle in the Atlantic Ocean yet. Other similar phenomena, for example the Great Lakes Triangle, aren't explained away as easily. Of course, one must keep in mind that so many of these stories are embellished to add an air of mystery to maritime or air disasters.

As is often the case there is not just one correct answer...
YES, there have been real disappearances in the area for hundreds of years. The area used to be known as the Sargasso Sea, a ship graveyard. Even before Europeans came to the area it was known as an area where people disappeared suddenly.
NO, statistically there are not more lives lost in than other areas of the ocean or sky. It is actually because of this statistic that this is unusual. The Triangle area (it is not just the small area of water and air within the group of is islands but actually a roughly circular area that includes the islands and surrounding ocean) is one of the most trafficked areas of the US coast. For this reason it has its fair share of almost expected accidents and disappearances, but it has a statistically low occurrence of recoveries and saves for such a populous area. Frequent boaters and flyers should increase the number of recoveries just as it increases the chance of an accident.
YES, the methane gas theory has been PROVED. There is a larger than usual amount of large gas bubbles that escape in that area due to the underwater temperature variations and the pockets of trapped or frozen gas on the ocean floor. It can easily and quickly sink an oilrig, not an easy feat, and can leave behind a strangely reduced amount of debris (for a while). The reason is that boats that float well on water do not float well on air (gas).
NO, this does not explain disappearances of airplanes.
It is tough to tell if there is an unusual amount of magnetic distortion, visual distortion, or even time distortion in any area of the world. Despite appearances the earth is far from a stable place to live, and an area claiming to NOT have “unusual” activity is strange for it’s lack of base instability.

I believe there is an area we *call* the Bermuda Triangle.
As for the supposed reports of strange things happening there -- I don't believe there's anything unusual going on.
Numerous studies have shown there are no more accidents, disappearances, etc. in that area than in any other area of the oceans of the world. Of course unexplained things happen at sea -- nobody else is around to see somebody's boat sink, etc. There's no aliens, no magnetic fields, no magic or demons. It's just normal stuff.
(there's no methane gas, either -- don't know where that guy came up with that one)

I believe it possibly exists. We don't know all that our oceans contain. There are miles and miles of water there. I have read books about the mysterious happenings there, by different people. And of how many planes and ships in that area have gone down mysteriously. It could be a place that is being used by aliens for research or some other reason, that are taking these people. And there are also people who survived going through there and report strange happenings like the clocks going wacky, and I think the radar too. I know I would NOT take any chances going through that area. But it is very interesting. We probably won't know, unless we either talk to a reliable psychic, or die and find ALL the answers!

its already been discovered that methane gas sits at the ocean bottom in the Bermuda Triangle. Sometimes it surfaces and is realeased into the air.. if there is just 1% in the air.. it is enough to bring down a small boat or aircraft.

I heard a theory from a theologian that it might be a place were the demons were held, thus hades. And since there were a couple of places like the Bermudad triangle, such as the devil's triangle around by the Asian countries then there are other gates to Hades or hell.

I beleive it could be volcanic activity beneath the sea which causes the bermuda triangle theory

After growing up and remembering all of the bizarre events related to stories like this anything seems possible now.

I believe that something very very strange goes on there, due to different factors, only God knows what they all are. Too many things have happened there for it to be merely ignored, but again, God knows what causes those things to occur.
