So i play on a varsit basketball team at my school but my coach is a complete jerk, we lose pretty bad and he just doesnt help. He also calls one of our players stupid, and even though he may be joking none of us think its funny, and it hurts her feelings. Well recently i got redistricted to this school from another highschool that i loved, and we play them on friday. This game is all ive been talking about for weeks, and i found out today that he moved the majority of our starters down to JV and jv players up to varsity. I am almost positive that he did this on purpose because a group of us were angry at him for the way hes been acting and we are all the ones that got moved down even our best players. this sport has become more stress ful than it should be, and i really want to quit, but that makes me look bad, and im afraid that word will get back to the softball coach and ill get cut and softball is my life! what should i do?

You really shouldn't care what anyone one else thinks about you. If you know in your heart that its the best choice for you, then you will have no regrets. So if you want to stay on volleyball then stay, and if you don't then quit. Plus I really don't think volleyball will affect your softball career. If it does explain to your softball coach your reason for quitting the volleyball coach and show him/her how important it really is to you by showing up to practice everyday and on time and playing your best.

I would stick it out if I were you. You made a committment to your coach and teammates and you should stick with it until the season's over!!!

You might think about talking to the coach in a very nice way about why you were moved down to JV... you could say, "I've been concerned that I got moved down to JV. Did I do anything wrong and how can I improve my performance for the rest of the season?"

You could ask you parents what you should do, too since they know you better.

Try to just ignore your coach and try not to get angry and just relax and have fun!

The world is full of people like that and you must get along with them if you want to make it in your classes in college in the future or your job! You can't just give up working if your boss sucks and you shouldn't give up basketball either just because of your coach!!! If he ever calls you stupid, let him know that it is inappropriate (use that word, "Coach, calling me stupid is inappropriate. I do not want you to call me that again.") and let the other girl fight her own battles with him. And I agree, I really do think it would look bad if you quit... it will set the stage for how you will handle conflict for the rest of your life... you're just going to quit and give up? I hope not!

Good Luck!

set up a meeting with your coach
tell him how you feel, that he's taken all the fun out of the game and making it unenjoyable and a lot of the team would agree - if they do.

tell him that you think he needs to help out more so that the team can start winning and get some team spirit back.

if he does nothing go to the principal or another phys. ed. teacher and ask them what to do....

or if you have a teacher that really likes you and you're in one of their classes, act really sad and make it really noticeable..any good teacher will ask what's wrong and tell them. if not, still act really sad and then ask at the end of class if you can talk to them..

eventually if you talk to enough teachers, something should get done. if not you could always ask the teams parents to have a meeting with the coach!
