I had the first interview with a certain nonprofit organization a couple of weeks ago. I've had three interviews with them so far and talked to four different people. They emailed me and called me 2 wks ago to let me know that they are interested in me but they are waiting to hear from my references.

Yesterday, I called one of the people who interviewed me to ask him if he talked to my references. He said they were trying to contact them and that he would call me today but he didn't.

I feel like they really don't want to hire me but are just waiting for someone better to come along. And why do they need to talk to my references, shouldn't my past employers be enough?

I work for a non profit org. They do check personal refs. Alot of non profs deal with charities, special needs, disabilities, etc. That they've talked to you so many times sounds like you're in. They prob just want to make sure you're reliable, dependable & see what kind of person you are outside of the job. Good luck.
