I celebrated Xmas in the US once. It ended on Christmas day. Do Americans realise that in the UK, we drag it on until the new year, with the festivities still in full swing and sherries still being swigged out the bottle? Would you prefer this way?
I know I do, though my liver doesn't.

My tree is still up! Normally this would not be the case but I came down with strep throat on Chritmas Eve and I'm still sick! On with the question.
I would have to say the UK way is the way for me. I hate to see the season end and would love seeing the festivities carry on through the new year. Here in America we have a way of rushing everything (and that is usually commercially motivated) so we start pulling out the Christmas and Thanksgiving stuff right after Halloween. It's no wonder that people can't wait to get it over with. If there was a reasonable amount of time between each holiday before the upcoming one was shoved down our throats we might be more inclined to celebrate the UK way.

Some people in the US do it that way too. I live in the US and my friends/family have Christmas get togethers right up until New Years Day because they have so many to go to that they have to plan them all spread out. My tree's still up, too! I also went to a Christmas party that took place a week after Christmas ended and I celebrated New Years Eve!

Took mine down on wednesday. It was starting to get on me nerves and crowd the living room! Took 2 minutes to take down and hours to put up! How does that work? Not so much swearing either! I think Christmas should be taken through to New Year as we are still celebrating however I think a lot of people will agree with you when it comes to the liver issue!

Most people in the UK leave the decorations up until Twelfth Night (evening of january 6th). Stockport town council has been known to leave the public decorations up until February. Me, I spent most of December away from home so I never even bothered to put one up this year. Don't need an excuse to keep swigging at the booze though. ;)

Christ's birthday is only one day - but the season of Christmas lasts twelve days each of which is a different feast day.
I know many Christians who take the decorations off by 6th January - Epiphany (the coming of the Three Kings) but who leave the bare tree up till 6th February - Candlemass (the presentation of Christ in the Temple).
Our church always leaves the crib up till Candlemass.

My tree is firmly up. After all there are twelve days of Christmas the main day is Christmas day. 6th January is known as twelfth night but is actually the first day of Epiphany. Epiphany is the recognised end of Christmas by the Church of England and most other Christian Churches except the Orthodox Christians who celebrate their Christmas in January.

My tree is still up, btw I live in US. It will come down this weekend. I took down the roping outside that dried due to the warmer than usual weather. Inside all decorations except the nativity, snow village, stockings and tree came down.
However hearing all the critics arguing that Christ was actually born in June, I am thinking of keeping my tree up until July!

Will take mine down on the 6th January-12 days after Christmas as I always have done. And yes, booze still in cupboard to drink and not feel guilty about doing it!

We still have the tree up until Jan. 6, for a holiday based on the 3 wise kings.

Yep, my Christmas tree is still up (having said that it's only a foot tall!). I'll probably just leave it up for as long as it will last but take the decoration (one minute piece of tinsel) off by the 6th (Epiphany) as this is tradition.
