suddenly these two are not communicating...removed and replaced lexmark 1270 printer...okay for short time, then developed communication issue again. r/r usb cable...still problem...is it possible the usb port(s) has failed or is in the process of failing? issue is relavent in both ports. would like to use a usb to serial port adapter and have a go...problem is, i don't know if they exsist. HELP

First thing I would do is go to the lexmark site and download the latest driver and software package.

I don't really think your USB ports are going bad. I would try the following first.

Shut down the PC and power down the printer.
Disconnect the printer from the PC.

Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall the printer software.

Reboot the PC.

Install the Printer drivers.

Shut down the PC and connect the printer to the PC. Turn the power on the printer.

Reboot the PC. Your printer should be reinstalled.

If all else fails, and you really suspect the USB ports, you can buy a USB 2 PCI card with four ports for about $15. I would do that before I got to an adapter and a serial port. USB 2 is much faster.

they exist www.cablestogo.com but i think you may have other issues with your pc that once resolved will let the usb work again
