There's nothing to be scared of. It's just a little pinch at first, and that's about it. Try having you or your mom in there with her, and be on the opposite side of where the blood is being taken from. Have her look at you, and hold her hand so that she feels comfortable (or as comfortable as possible). Let her bring a stuffed toy or something that is comforting to her. Perhaps tell her that there's a big hug, or ice-cream or some cool incentive in it afterwards? Also, when I've had blood drawn, I usually hold my breath right when they stick the needle in.. for some odd reason, it helps.

We all have to have these tests. But we mostly hate them. I have finally found to ask for the size of the needle. I let them use a 21 on me. Nothing bigger. Because larger causes bruising. Then,
Tell your mom, if the person does not get that needle in the vein 1st time. Make them get diff. person to do it. My veins roll and I now do not let them try and try and try., Once they know you mean It, they do not want to mess around and will get someone to do a good job. After all they are open for a law suit for undue stress. No longer is the medical profession considered as gods. If she is young enough tell your sister she gets a pretty bandage and maybe a balloon or a piece of candy.

Cheering up isn't my specialty, but believe me, It won't hurt.

I've been pricked in the arm by needles so many times for blood drives, cholesterol tests, and so on and if you just look away, you won't feel a thing.

There will be a little pinch when the needle goes in. Just tell her that the pain literally lasts a second and then she'll be fine.

Tell her it will be over in a little while and you'll take her for ice cream or something. It doesn't hurt much. It's the thought of it that is so painful.

Tell her to wiggle her toes when the needle goes in. It will distract her from the pain - works for me and I'm 23!!! Give her a treat afterwards if she's brave (which she will be no matter what...)

Tell her there is a big hug waiting for her from you and do something special with her; let her talk about blood giving and not really hurting...

Eventually, we will all have blood drawn for tests. Yes, it hurts. But it's no worse than a pinch. Assure her it will be quick.

She may feel a tiny pricking sensation, but it will only take about 10 seconds
