Hi, I have some questions. I am a cheerleader and I really want to cheer in college. I was just wondering what some qualifications would be. I know there aren't like set ones but just like basic. And could I be a flyer in college if I am a base now? I mean I am not heavy, like I am 110 and 5'2. but we just have very skinny girls as flyers (80 pounds in highschool...wow)

So yea any help would be amazing

I think it depends on the school and how large the squad is. If the squad is large enough to include men and women, I would think you could easily be a flyer. Work very hard on your tumbling and flexibility. In my opinion an 80 pound cheerleader would be a little anorexic looking for most college squads. They usually want healthy athleticism. You should also be prepared for try-outs to include an "interview" of sorts. One thing that's very important in college cheerleading is time management so highlight your ability to cheer AND keep your grades up.

Depends on the college team.

Even if you are small you have to have the skills for flying. This is especially important on a co-ed squad since it's a bit different than for an all-girl one.

My best advice is to figure out what schools you are planning on applying to and getting info about their tryout requirements. Some of them have wesbites which list minimal skills for flying and tumbling. If not, get on the phone and get that information. There's a difference in the requirements between, say, The University of Maine Black Bears and the Kentucky Wildcats. :^) Some places might only ask for a back handspring, others might want a double full. Some might only want a heel stretch with a full down, others might want you to rewind up, hit a bow and arrow-scorp-scale and double down.

Also, if you have a cheer gym nearby try to get in some classes as a flyer, or see if your HS coach will let you try flying at practice sometimes, so you can say you have previous experience.

Good luck.

Since you have almost a year to train...I would find some type of cheerleading lessons or team to become involved with until then...maybe audition for a competition squad first to see how your skills compare. Good luck!

Well, my cousin is ranked #2 in the state of georgia for cheer and she said this: First, if you are really short, like under 5 feet, almost any coach will want you. second, you have to be athletic and able to preform lots of acrobatic flips and stuff. Lastly, you need to be motivated and have great team spirit. good luck

I don't really know but all the cheerleaders and my college have muscles and are very slim girls they're just very athletic not your average HS cheerleaders.
