As the discount was 40%, it means that if a product was originally priced at $ 10, it would be sold at $ 6 after discount. So as Tess paid $ 14.50, the original price of the item would have been $ 14.50 divided by 6 and multiplied by 10 which would be $ 24.17.

Since you get forty percent off you know that you have to pay 60% of the original price of the bathing suit. Ask yourself 60% of what number is 14.50?

so if you write that same phrase in math terms it would be written:

.60n=14.50

Now just do it like a normal math problem...divide both side by .60=24.16666666666etc or $24.17

This is a simple ratio.

The price paid is 1-40% = 1-.4 = .60 of the original price.

14.50/.60 = X/1.00, and solve for x.

The regular price is 36.25. This is how you do it:

To find a regular price, you do the following:
14.50 divided by 40% or.40= 36.25

To find a sales price do the following:
36.25 times 40% or .40 =14.50

HOPE THIS HELPS!

you have :
if X= regular price and 14.5 is 60% of the original price since you have 100%-40% (discount) = 60%

60% of X = 14.50

(.6)*X = 14.50

X= (14.50)/(.6)

X=$24.17

Since the item was 40% off, she paid 60%, so:

Price x .6 = 14.50
divide both sides by .6
Price = 14.50/.6
so, $24.17 is the regular price

14.50 divided by .60 or 60% = 24.16 .
You divide by what is left of 100% the answers above that divide by 40% and give you an answer of 36.25 are wrong. 14.50 is 40% of 36.25 .you need to know what number x 40% = 14.50. 24.16 x .40 = 9.664-24.16=14.50
