I've heard many good things about Seattle and I am planning a move there within this month to start a new life. Although very excited at the thought, a few uncertainties are setting me back. I know absolutely no one in Seattle and will not have anyone else to help me with the moving. With my limit budget and saving, I am planning to rent a huge truck to load all of my belongings and pull my car there. I am estimating it will take me about three days to drive from Indiana. Is this a good idea? I also need help with info on finding an affordable but clean and safe apartment and on finding employment in the Graphic Design arena. I have five years of work experience and a BA from a top university. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

I can't help you regarding your line of work, and as far as apartments go try craigslist/seattle. What I can help you with is geography! I moved from Chicago 6 months ago and took a full 4 days to get here taking I-90 the entire way. I think it was something like 2065 miles straight through. I however stopped off and enjoyed the view and I think you should, too. Unless you've seen it all before it's some beautiful country! I highly recommend the Badlands in South Dakota and Mt. Rushmore as well. I also enjoyed Yellowstone Nat'l Park in Wyoming. Don't forget you won't be able to speed along while driving a truck with a car en tow. Take your time and be safe. Also if you are planning on driving out in January you'll need to check road conditions daily, some of the mountain passes may be closed. Good luck and be safe!

I think it is a wonderful idea as i live in Seattle(area) myself. You will want to search for an apartment that has free parking because in downtown you may have to pay rent for that as well. You8 might wqant to consider living near Seattle like in Auburn, Renton ,or kent where it is more affordable and will take 10 to 30 minutes to commute into downtown. Graphic design jobs aare available through the city as in working for any of these cities. My friends dad is a graphic design artist for Kent WA. Look under the seattle PI or other seattle papers and u can find affordable housing and jobs on the net.... Good luck and maybe someday i'll meet u

Finding work in Seattle with the art business should be fairly easy, however if you have money problems I dont suggest moving here, homes and apartments costs are very high in the Seattle area. As for not knowing anyone, thats easy to change. There are I believe a few hundred thousand people that live in Seattle, most are easy going, lots of hang out spots, its easy to meet new people

I'd say to look in areas like Renton, Ballard, or Kent. Apartments there are going to be a lot cheaper than ones in Seattle. If you type in like "Apartments in Seattle" in google.. you will get a lot of listings :) Also, it shouldn't be too hard to find a graphic designing job in Seattle. Go to Monster.com and make an account and see what you find! Good luck and I hope you enjoy it here.
