Are you doing the right stretches? Here are some that can help, depending on which splits you want to do.

1. Bend your right or left leg in front of you on the floor. Your leg should be flat on the floor.
2. Your other leg should go straight back. Don't let it move out on the side, keep it kind of under you. Like if that leg was in the position of doing the splits.
3. You can do that with both legs. But not at the same time!

If you want the other splits here's a different stretch.

1. Having a partner is easier. Both of you sit on floor with legs spread open.
2. Your partner's legs should be against your ankle or other part of leg. Grab each others hands, or wrists, and your partner should pull you forward until you can't go farther. It's okay for either or both of you to touch the ground as long as your legs feel, you know, streched?

I hope you can do the splits, because I never got that far as to do one, but I've gotten close.

Go down as far as you can go...then do very light bounces. Do not force yourself and don't worry if it takes a 3 or four days...you'll get there.

you need to practice and tone your muscles.

cos i do taikwondo - i build other muscles that restrict my movement - so you also need to consider what other sports you are doing
