considering people change all through out their lives, the era we live in where lawyers are out to do as much damage as possible, where money makes the world go round and round and its so damn easy to get a divorce... someone help me understand why someone shouldn't get a prenuptial agreement b4 they get married. A friend is about to get married but apparently "love" will last forever for her and she is "100%" sure she will be with this person the rest of or life (but is she 100% sure he will be with her the rest of her life). Marriage is nothing but a legal contract and should be treated as one. so why dont you legally protect yourself. and what does love have to do with marriage?

Prenups are meaningless unless one or both have significant assets coming into the marriage. Any financial asset that is aquired during the marriage will be split equitably if a divorce takes place. No point in it if you don't have any money, unless someone wants to lay claim on the cat!

I would only think of a prenup if there were businesses involved or if there was a large family inheritance that needed to be kept, legally in the family, or if it was a second marriage and there were children from the first marriage.

If there are other factors then maybe your friend shouldn't be naive about it either. Everyone wants to believe that their marriage will work and should do everything to make sure that it will be I don't think it is wrong to protect yourself going in.

I can not think of 1 reason why someone should NOT get one! The next time I get married I will definitely get one!

Some people don't think realistically, they are caught in the magic of love, which makes people make really bad decisions in their lives.

unless your friend is well to do and has a lot to lose in case of divorce.it isnt necessary to get a prenup...If she is rich and has lots to lose yes she should....However everything she has before marriage is hers even if they divorce...I live in texas and whats yours before a marriage remains yours after the marriage ends......check your states laws......

You absolutely need a prenuptual agreement. If the person has no plans for divorce they should have no objection.
