As already said those arent parties but anyway...

On a related side note, I hate when people pull out a dictionary definition of liberal and try to apply it to politics...

As long as we are clear.

Conservatism =
less taxes
smaller goverment
less government intrusion
minimal social programs
among other things..

Liberalism =
social programs a plenty
no tax cuts spend it on something
more government intrusion unless its for defense
a multitude of pork barrel projects.

of course those just touch on a few principles and doesnt even come close to fully describing each.

These days a politicians party tells virtually nothing about his ideology of how liberal or conservative he is.
Look at the politicians' record, how they vote on issues, what they say.

I personally am mostly conservative but not across the board.
I dont like saying middle of the road. but I guess I am moderate-conservative. Middle of the road kinda implies that you cant make a dicisions about anything. which may or may not be the case.

Unfortunately as far as the current R's and D's go. They all seem to want to spend spend spend.

There is a reason so many people will do anything to get into the USA. Capitalism and free enterprise work.
Goverment will never do something better than the private sector can.
So as such, socialized medicine is not the way to go.
Social security and medicare are mismanaged and there is tons of waste and loss. again it would be better off to be in the open market.
the tax system and the IRS has become a bloated mess of a myriad of laws that could be simplified and taxes reduced.
Everyone should pay the same percentage of taxes.

Few politicians are conservatives in most senses. And few of them are liberal in the classical sense also.

The definition of a liberal is a person who believe individual freedoms outway everything else in society. A conservative is a person who believes the public good comes before the individual.

I would say I'm a progressive conservative, because I believe in strong national defence, though laws, limited governement, but I don't want to try to outlaw butt-sex.

I am a progressive, the real name not the slur, liberal that conservatives dreamed up)
Progressive look for answers that do not yet exist, instead of claiming there is no answer or continuing to play the same failed scenarios over and over!
BTW If those new ideas work, then conservatives always try to claim they did it!
Aint that a kick in the pants!
By nature conservative will not try something new!
AND TICD
That makes you a facist not a conservative! Sorry!
If you dont beleive me look it up!

Originally the terms liberal and conservative are terms for how you translate/interpret the constitution. Conservatives tend to interpret the laws literally ie gun control. The constitution says we have a right to bear arms AND form organized militia. Conservatives take that to mean we have the right to both own guns and there are no limitations to them being together; liberals tend to more go in the way of what they think the writer of the law meant then enforce it as they see fit like taking the right to bear arms and have organized militia to go together so private citizens do not have the right ot own guns unless they are part of an organized militia.
I tend to be conservative in my view on rights because they are there in black and white and many of them can not be adapted to today's lifestyle, given liberal interpretation Americans have lost many rights while protecting the rights of the more vociferous. Like smoking in southern California. Of the many people I know that do not smoke, people smoking outside does not bother them but people feel they have the right to not smell smoke so now many others must loose their rights to make them happy.

positioned it this way, Liberals tend to think of of society as perfect and push to do the flaws that could desire to make society "suitable". they opt for all human beings to make the comparable quantity of money, no person to be impoverished, and there be generic healthcare. regrettably, that's not the case. it is an perfect society. in many situations, Conservatives tend to think of of issues slightly extra realistically, yet do in lots of situations pass approximately preserving suggestions the incorrect way. the complete gay marriage element even with the indisputable fact that may not even as much as the federal government to return to a determination so that is pointless for them to argue approximately it. it is not defined in any portion of the form for congress, the president, or the splendid courtroom to make any determination. only like abortion do not have been left to the federal government and might have been exceeded over, yet those are only examples. Conservatism is extra of a you do your section, I do mine. We go away one yet another on my very own ideas-set. Liberalism is a enable's help one yet another and each thing is great ideas-set. frequently. Regardless, think of, do not in undemanding terms connect aspects. that is undemanding to tell the place I lie, yet like I pronounced, aspects do not remember. Vote on matters, not human beings.

Liberal and conservative are not parties, and if you are talking republican or democrat, then I am neither. I think all politicians are slimes.

I am also middle of the road, and vote the issues, NOT the people or the party. Anyone who does is blind to faults within each party.

I am a conservative. Mostly, I don't think the government should control as much as they do. We are capable of taking care of ourselves...So, why I'm a conservative...hmm, I've got the simplest answer...Liberals want to give a man a fish, Conservatives want to TEACH the man to fish. Which do you think is most effective?

True conservatives are fiscally conservative and believe in balancing the budget, and a limited government. Conservatives in the White House (leaving tomorrow, THANK GOD!), are not that way.
I am proud to be a muckraking liberal.

Pooky, you can't teach a man to fish when they don't have a rod. That's how the conservatives are.

I am a conservative. Like the previous answer, Liberals want to GIVE a man a fish while conservatives like to TEACH a man to fish. This means that I support the government in providing bare minimum assistance to those who struggle or cheat their way through life. Liberals like to spend money and actually support people with YOUR tax money. My grandfather always told me that Liberals tax and spend and Conservatives balance and save. Conservatives do not spend as much of our tax money on people who cheat the government. They use it to benefit the entire nation instead of focusing on one group of people. Liberals use the working classes hard earned tax dollars to benefit only one group of people, the poverty non-working class. I like to see my money work for mine and other working peoples benefit. Another important side note is that Liberals support gun control, while conservatives favor the ideal that any American that wishes to own a gun can apply for a permit to get one. I agree with conservatives in that I like to have my rights defended.
I hope this answer helps you understand why I am a conservative.
