God doesn't 'let' it happen. A person's 'free will' that was given to us does it. Some people allow the Devil into their heart and do his deeds. That's what free will is about. You have the choice to do wrong or right. Not appreciating this allows these murders and rapes to be in vain. Make your choices using your wisdom and morality. The Devil wants you to think it's God's fault for these senseless acts. The Devil wants you to turn away from God because you can't explain these occurances. I on the other hand simply believe in God and I know that you will recieve 10 fold of what you dealt when you die. These acts will not go unpunished. I appreciate your heart and concern for the abuses, but don't let the Devil convince you that it's God's fault.

The idea of God really isn't that far fetched, its the idea of the ridiculous image that seems to be in mainstream Christianity that is far fetched. The all powerful beeing who has ultimate control and will over all things and decides the fate of all. This is an image created to control the masses by the church in some of the darkest parts of European history and is very warped.
Let me presume for one moment that you are in the pursuit of happiness. If you are not, then the idea of God is worthless to you and if you are already truely happy then quite frankly you are in no need of such spiritual ideas as you have already attained the very goal of spirituality.
If you want to be happy then the best thing to do is to stop being at conflict with other things, to stop fearing other things or yourself and generally to relax about it all and maybe to gain a little wisdom and insight into why things happen the way they do.
GET THE GOD THE FATHER IMAGE OUT OF YOUR HEAD (sorry about the shouting)
Think of god more as the universe itself. Think of all the life and bueaty that is in this universe the vastness of it, and tell me that it is not a worthwhile cause to try and live in harmony with it. To become one with all living things and to live in peace even in our small part of it. I'm not saying that thats it, but its allot closer than the image that we have been brainwashed with.
So here is the really funky part. If God is more like the universe iteslf and less like the watching father image than you are God. Because you are the universe in exactly the same way as a wave is the sea.
The free will thing is pretty right, God does not impose on our free will and stop us from killing children or raping eachother. Infact it is God doing the raping and the killing.
So you may say, what use is God, well figure that one out and everything else falls into place. I will give you a clue though, you can't figure it all out without a leap of faith. You have to accept that there is something grater than you in order to become truely happy. Its all about the ego, it just wont stop filling your head with crap until it submits to a higher power and thats why we need God. Its so we can be happy and stop killing children and raping eachother.

That is, they say, how can a God of love permit such things in His world as war, sickness, pain, and death, especially when their effects often are felt most keenly by those who are apparently innocent? Either He is not a God of love and is indifferent to human suffering, or else He is not a God of power and is therefore helpless to do anything about it. In either case, the Biblical God who is supposedly one of both absolute power and perfect love becomes an impossible anachronism. Or so they claim!
This is a real difficulty, but atheism is certainly not the answer, and neither is agnosticism. While there is much evil in the world, there is even more that is good. This is proved by the mere fact that people normally try to hang on to life as long as they can. Furthermore, everyone instinctively recognizes that "good" is a higher order of truth than "bad".
We need also to recognize that our very minds were created by God. We can only use these minds to the extent that He allows, and it is, therefore, utterly presumptuous for us to use them to question Him and His motives.
"Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Genesis 18:25).
"Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, why hast Thou made me thus?" (Romans 9:20).
We ourselves do not establish the standards of what is right. Only the Creator of all reality can do that. We need to settle it, in our minds and hearts, whether we understand it or not, that whatever God does is, by definition, right.
Having settled this by faith, we are then free to seek for ways in which we can profit spiritually from the sufferings in life as well as the blessings. As we consider such matters, it is helpful to keep the following great truths continually in our minds.

hm...that is deep thinking and I dont blame you for that. y get mad at your opinion? im sure some do. but i only smile and thank God for people like you who ask 'why' and dont simply follow the crowd. you said dont say free will...but thats my answer. God loved his children so much to not be a harsh dictator. God gave us decision, the right to choose. We go through different trials of life...without the trials, then life wouldnt be so sweet. if one had all sunshine, it would create a desert. with enough rain and enough sunshine, we'll have a beautiful rainforest. u kno, but if u r able to survive the trials, rewards are sure to come...not just heaven, but peace at heart, happiness within, feeling of accomplishment, u made it. those who commit their crimes are also filled with feeling or just plain emptiness...trying to fill the void, ill let ur imagination determine wat types of feelings. maybe i have done nothing but make u say the believers in God cannot prove a thing still. maybe i have made u start thinking. it does not matter. i simply hope u will live life right no matter wat others' actions r. thats all my God wants from his children....for us to love each other, but he only wants those who decides to be strong and throw the temptations to the side and choose love n harmony

I don't believe in God, but I've heard a few answers that are convincing. I agree that "free will" or "the devil" are really just ways of avoiding the question since God (supposedly) created these things. The most I can offer is perhaps God is not like the Judeo-Christian version. Maybe he is not all-loving or all-good. Perhaps he does not even believe in the balance of good and evil. Perhaps he is as random as the weather...

Why do you blame God for the evil of humans? Blame the pitiful, self-destructive species called Man.

I will approach this from a Christian aspect, as this is consistent with my choosen faith. However, please mind that I am a deitist and feel that the "Supreme Being" may come in any form he/she chooses. I do not denouce others beliefs, only choose Christianity. Even if one totally denouces a "God" per sei, there is still the fact that even in science there are cetain levels of thought and reasoning that are stronger then those of other beings.
From the Holy Bible (Corinthians) "We are all members of the body of Christ with Jesus Christ as the Godhead". We are a part of God according to this and other scripture. In the Qu'ran it is stated that all things are from God, suggesting a smiliar teaching in regards to our being a part of God. In Bereishith of the Torah, God creates man, which in essence states that Man is part of God. In the passage attached from Bereishith the first Book in the Torah, it demonstrates that God has given control to mankind over all other things. Therefore then, it is man, not God who allows the atrositities you speak of to occur.
Bereishith 1:26-28 (This Jewish Book is known as Genisis in the Holy Bible)
And G-d said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.'
27
And G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created He him; male and female created He them.
28
And G-d blessed them; and G-d said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Dude, I understand your frustration...First thing you need to do in the midst of chaos remember, "Everything is just temporary..." these circumstances, events, and present conditions...and it is my belief by just looking around this pretty planet, that there isn't a jam I can get my self into that GOD the ALMIGHTY couldn't get me out of...in my relationship to anyone of those topics up there.
We are here to EXPERIENCE life to its FULLEST potential. At every part of the polarity from LOVE to FEAR, from Pain to Suffering, which by the way are 2 different things...Condemn it NOT, for you have no clue to what part it plays to the BIGGER PLAN.
Ya know, a lot of people get pissed off at GOD...and that is starting to piss me off. He and I are just making a relationship and being the HUMAN I am feelings of ANGER and ALL I just wanted to say...
Everyone, and I MEAN every one needs to STEP up and take responsibility for the ACTIONS, or their LACK of ACTIONS... GOD gave this world, this relam of the physical to US...he's not going to stick his nose into our business...he's merely observing LIFE and EXPERIENCES THROUGH US.
ALWAYS ALL WAYS

Crap, crap, crap.
Its all about this free will crap.
I have free will & you have free will.
Would you rather you didn't have free will?
What about me, would you take my free will away?
Most people do quite well with free will.
Would you take theirs away also?
What would take the place of free will?
