I have skiied at all and really obviously Whistler is the best. It has the longest runs, the best lifts, but like everyone has previously mentioned it has pretty expensive lift tix and food. But it does have much nicer snow - especially up on the glacier - which as a boarder you will love.

Someone mentioned Hemlock for boarding - yeah I agree but am not a fan of the mountain - a personal preference really.

I too am from North Van - I am a Grouse girl. It is more because that is what likely I grew up with and so why I am most comfortable with it. It has spectacular views over the city when you ski. The drawback at Grouse is often the cloud cover - this mountain is not fun to ski when it is foggy! So check in advance.

Cypress - is the fave for most locals - and I will say there are many positives to it. It has longer runs - but the draw back is you need to pre-plan your skiing so that you don't end up hiking between lifts.

Seymore -I haven't skiied there since I was a pre-teen - we always called it the baby hill on the north shore. I imagine it has improved significantly in 15 years. So I should not say that is the case today, but it is again a preference thing for me.

All of the local hills - have heavy snow unless we get temps of more than -5. So for the fluffy stuff Whistler is your best bet.

There are three mountains close to Vancouver for skiing/snow-boarding: Cypress, Grouse Mountain, and Mt. Seymour. These are small ski resorts (with about 20-30 runs) compared to Whistler, but some runs are open at night. There's generally not much difference between these 3 resorts. The closest one to Vancouver downtown is Grouse Mountain, though unlike the other two, you can't just drive up there; you need to take a gondola or hike....
Whistler is about 2 hours driving north of Vancouver; it's much further, though it's a much better ski resort than the three named above: more runs, more terrains, more to do.
I have never been to Hemlock. I believe that it is somewhere further in Fraser Valley, and is also a really small resort, so if I were choosing, that wouldn't be my top choice.

So: for an extended skiing holiday, go to Whistler; else, if just for a weekend or an evening, go for one of the three close by.

Well they are all really good mountains. Whistler is a two hour drive from vancouver and its more expensive up there, but i do reccommend you buy your tickets fo whistler before hand at 7 eleven. Cypress, Grouse and Seymour are all good mountains. I wouldn' know what to say as the best. to go to grouse you have to take this huge gondula up the mountain. No matter what you choose i don't think you will be dissapointed.

Whistler is probably the best, but most expensive. But since I live in North Vancouver, I go to Mt Seymour most of time.
