If you feel you should wear lighter things, then be my guest. But if you want to go for things on the dark side, then that ok too. im dark skinned and people say a black top looks fine on me. Just go with your gut.

I wouldn't wear lighter makeup because it would make your skin look fake. Darker skin looks very nice in a complementary color of clothes. As there are different darknesses and lightnesses of skin, I suggest you go with what looks the best colors on you.

You should wear what makes you comfortable. I'm dark skinned and I wear white, read, peach, orange....You just wear what suites you. If you're confused about which makeup shades work with your skin tone, visit the makeup section of a local department store and they'll give you a free makeover and tell/show you which colors look best on your skin!

If you have dark skin then lighter colors will look very pretty. Orange, Salmon and pinks are great on dark skin.

For make up..
make sure the concealer and foundation match your skin tone don't go for anything lighter! For eye shadow...go for deep colors such as purples, mauves. They somehow really show off the face. Lighter clothes aren't always better but try and stay away from black and deep browns. You don't want to hide but want to stand out and show confidence from your clothing. First interpretations matter!!

its really not a big deal because your beautiful just the way you are it doesn't matter about your skin color who ever makes fun of you then tell them I'm beautiful just the way i am and i don't need anybody to tell me how i look like i can handle my own body
