You'll find mean people everywhere. They can be upperclassmen or in your own grade.
The thing to remember is that you'll be that upperclassmen some day. So, concentrate on making friends. Most will be in your own grade, but you'll find you can make some upperclassmen friends too.
It's not a big deal. Everyone's scared at first. It's usually never that bad. Kids often think things are so horrible, it becomes horrible for them. A lot of it is just your state of mind.

Just remember that most people, if not all, are probably wondering the exact same thing! You're definitely not the only one walking through the halls wondering what people are thinking when they look at you. Make friends by being friendly and yourself. Smile! Maybe join some groups (e.g., drama, music, student council, yearbook) you are interested in and meet people that way. It can be less intimidating.
As for the popular girls - yes some are mean but some are also very nice. No matter what clique or group you look at you will find both mean and nice people. Try to judge people for who they are and not for what group they belong to.
It seems overwhelming I am sure but you'll eventually find your way. Just hold on to the thought that everyone else is going through it too.

It's been so many years since I was a freshman that I cant remember too much about it I always made friends with almost everyone. I was so ugly that most of the popular girls thought I was cute, have a good one in all the new years to come.

don't worry! being a freshman isnt scary. People are pretty nice. Making friends- join something. My mom told me to and i ignored it and didnt and now i really regret it. And no popular girls are not that mean. Some girls might be mean but from all groups...

human beings did not **** with me whilst i replaced right into a freshman. Nor did I mess with them. the days of the dazed and at a loss for words freshman paddling are over. the only element that does happen is upperclassmen tricking youthful women to sleep with them. And, because of the fact they're naive and stupid it regularly works.
