It is most likely shattered, rotted, or otherwise long gone. Recall Jesus Christ lived in relative poverty and was a carpenter by training. He wouldn't have had a metal cup, and the idea of him having some ornate object at the Last Supper simply doesn't match his style as one of supreme humility.
The stories about Joseph of Arimethea and the Grail date only to the Middle Ages, a time when the Catholic Church was incredibly corrupt and routinely charged admission to see displays of bogus historical religious relics - though it is worth mentioning that even this legend suggests that the Grail was made of wood.

Well if it does not reside in some Catholic vault or in some Jewish temple or with the Ethiopians. Or is not stored in some American Vault. Then it could be sitting somewhere on or under this earth............ The only country that would never admit having the holy Grail are the Africans............. Everyone else will do everything in their power to profit off of the Holy Grail..........

In the people. The Grail isn't litterally a cup, it's symbolic. The Holy Grail is the blood of Christ, his genetic line as they walk the Earth. Nobody knows where they reside and in truth that's for the best that's nobody ever does know.

The Holy Grail is simply folklore, a mythological tale. Only because there isn't any scientific evidence to prove of it's existence. There are thousands of versions depicting different stories. But the original tale was to have said that Joseph of Arimathea collected the blood of Jesus Christ in this vessel at the time of His crucifiction. Supposedly he took the Holy Grail to Britain where it was passed down from each generation of his family. To this day we do not know where it is, nor the nature of it's orginality. We do not even know if it is merely a fable or something more.

In a private warehouse near the Capitol Building in Washington D.C., behind a lead glass display case.
It has been studied by scientists for many centuries. It gives off an unusual amount of electro-static radiation and has been known to cause certain substances to spontaniously burn when they come in close proximity to the artifact. Any ink or paint within 30 feet that contains metallic elements seem to be most likely to scorch, like Titanium White. Anything containing the element magnesium is kept from the area as well.
Sometimes, phlorescent bulbs would flare up whenever workers would approach the humble-looking carpenter's cup. Radios go haywire and personal walkie-talkies and cell phones will sometimes go dead when near the item.
It was acquired from the Vatican in 1939 by a Rosecrucian Monk (name unavailable) who was trying to keep it from the Nazis. As part of the Nazi's Occult Program, soldiers of the Third Reich were snatching up any religious or otherwise "magical" artifacts that they could to add to their arsenal.
It was feared that the Grail could provide their leader with a form of immortality if he drank from it. Worse case scenario was that its unusual qualities could be researched in order to create an early Electro-Magnetic-Pulse generator. If such a device was created, it could have easily been used to disrupt Allied aircraft, seacraft or other vehicles.

Nobody really knows, some seem to think that it is in Heaven, it is too tempting to be worshiped if posed by any one or group to be present here on earth. Same as the Ark of the Covenant. now that's my thoughts. There are some thing God didn't intend for us to know. Just like Noah's Ark, you see how hard it is for anyone to find it and retrieve some of it If God wanted it found, He would make a way, but it would probable cause more problems than it would solve.

Why is it holy? It's a cup. If you care about the "Holy Grail", you're missing the point of what Jesus was saying when he drank from it.
