A union has nothing to do with it. And being rude to the boss is not something that you do, ever, even if you think with good reason that the boss deserves telling off. If a work situation becomes intolerable, the thing to do is to change it, and if that means changing employers, that is what you do. But always leave on the best possible terms -- word gets around.
