With President Ford's week of National Mourning ending, it makes me wonder what history will say about his successor, Jimmy Carter. What praise will Carter have heaped upon him? What will be his major criticism?

I think people will remember him as an agent of peace, and an ardent worker for the ending of suffering. He has made his mistakes, to be certain, but, he will not be remembered for being a terrible president. Carter has done more in service of the US, since his end of term than most former Presidents dream of. Habitat for Humanity, is one of the crowning acheivements of the President, after his departing office, eventhough he has served well as an arbiter, negotiator, and spokesperson of the American people.

History will say the Jimmy Carter was a great humanitarian who emphasis on human right while in office saved many lives. He will get credit for helping Israel and Egypt reach a peace deal. He will get credit for trying to get the country to be less dependent of foreign oil.( The moral equivalent of war he called it. And then we fought two wars because of oil.) But then Reagan came and canceled everything so his friends in the oil companies could stay rich. He will get some credit for trying to so us that 6% of the world cannot tell the other 94% what to do. He will also go down in History as the best ex-president following Hoover.

His major criticism is that he was ineffective. He happened to be president while the oil embargo was going on. That will be part of his legacy. Also the Iran Hostage crisis will mar his presidency.

Sadly, he gets blamed for a host of things.

However, he was probably the most ethical and truly christian president we've ever had. With all the braying about religion and christianity going on in recent years by certain politicians, Jimmy Carter was the only truly christian president when it came to his thoughts and actions.

He has also truly become the best example of what an ex-president should be. Part of this legacy is Habitat for Humanity.

His criticism will be what it is now iran contra, but for all he has done for the american people both through efforts, and especially since he has been in office he will recieve great praise. Carter is a great man probably too good, to have been president, he had such great idea's but really wasn't underhanded and sneaky enough to get them all through. His humantarian efforts and work building homes for Habitat for humanity shows that his heart still lies with improving america. He is a great man. Unfortunately some idiot will say that reagan was better, but what few know is that many of the policies that reagan passed at the begining of his term were actually from the carter administration and were some of carter's ideas. Great question

He was a pretty good peanut farmer, and a decent person, but he should never have been president. This country was going to hell-in-a-hand basket under Carter.

History has already said Carter was a so so president, but a good man.

Everyone will remember that he grew peanuts.

He did absolutely nothing as President, but botch the Iranian hostage crisis and almost kill our economy.

He'll always have peanuts.

When all is said and done, he will be regarded as a good and decent man who singularly failed to resolve every single challenge he was faced with during his Presidency.

Well, I read quotes that Menachem Begin said he accomplished more by speaking directly with the Egyptians that he did talking to Carter. Carter was, has been and always be an anti-semetic redneck bigot. His presidency was a joke and thank GOD that Ronald Reagan came along to give us back the dignity that Carter pissed away.
