Clinched Home Field means that that team is the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and will not play any playoff games away from home except for the Super Bowl. The Bears and Chargers have clinched home field this year. Last year, it was the Colts and Seahawks, etc.

In the NFL the team with the best record in each league, (there are two, the American and National league) clinches home field advantage. This means that they have clinched the advantage of having all their playoff games up until the Super Bowl played at their home stadium. This is very significant because those teams get the field and weather conditions that they are used to, as well as the crowd support. This year, the Bears and the Chargers have home field advantage.

Clinched home field means that a team has played so well they have home field advantage. This means that their playoff game will be played at their house. Such as the Patriots winning so many, the Jets will be playing them in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
